The Art of Being Heard
You have never needed a louder voice. You have needed a truer one.
Most Arguments Are Not About the Dishes
Look closely at the last argument you had. The surface was probably small — the dishes, the tone, the phone face-down at dinner. The surface is never the subject. The subject is almost always one of four quiet things: I do not feel important to you. I do not feel safe with you. I do not feel chosen by you. I do not feel like myself around you.
We argue about the dishes because the real sentence feels too tender to say out loud. So we build a case instead. We gather evidence. We become lawyers of our own hurt, and we wonder why we never feel understood.
